Gazing into the night sky,
a lone wolf lifts his head in a mournful song.
He is alone now,
all of his pack members
have gone to the other side.
The other side of life,
where they no longer roam the earth
except in memories.

In the great wolf's memory, he is alone no more.
He can see his pack mates running at his side,
chasing shadows in the moonlight
and together they send their songs
into the night sky as one voice.

Why, he wonders, are we feared and hated so?
What have we done to make them feel they need to
chase us down, hunt us, or kill us?
Are we not just trying to survive on this earth,
just as they are?
When will they stop?
Will they stop before the great wolf
no longer exists on this earth?

Knowing he seeks answers he may never find,
the mighty wolf lifts his voice
once again to the night sky.
Carefully, keeping to the shadows of the night
to remain unseen,
he begins his journey once again,
hoping to find a haven of safety
for the last of his kind.
